Pizza! Pizza!

January 21, 2010

Last weekend was a pizza weekend!  We had a few couples over for dinner on Friday and we had a wine tasting and did *build-your-own* pizzas.  It was a blast.  One couple had a pizza 2 inches high, I swear.  We played games and ate on our china.  So fun.  We had so much leftover *schtuff*  that we did pizzas with the kids Saturday night…

Charlie is now an expert dough-roller.

We made a basic pizza sauce and left room for *handles* [Charlie].  We made this chunky sauce with 1/2 c. chopped onion, a bunch of garlic, 1/4 c. white wine, 1/2 can tomato paste, some oregano, red pepper flakes, 1 lg. can of crushed tomatoes, fresh basil, 1 Tbls. balsamic vinegar and salt/pepper to taste.

Add cheese and toppings…this is what we had on hand:  cheese [and lots of it]!  mozz, mont. jack, goat, parm, ricotta, fontina, asiago… pepperoni, italian sausage, prosciutto, meatballs [crumbled], chicken, red onion, eggplant, roasted red, yellow and green peppers, zucchini, mushrooms, black olives, tomatoes, garlic, basil, parsley, italian seasonings, and pine nuts.

We baked the dough first for 10 minutes at 375, then made the pizzas and cooked for about 10 mins. at 425.  Then we watched and waited…Grayson entertained us with funny faces.

It’s always more fun when Aunt Laura Grace shows up…

Charlie:  “Aunt Waura Grace…are you a fish in a castle?”  Ha ha ha ha ha.

LGB:  “Charlie, are you a whale in a toaster?”  Ha ha ha ha ha.

Charlie:  “Aunt Waura Grace…are you a toad in a pickle?”  Ha ha ha ha ha.

LGB:  “Charlie, are you a dog in a pillow?”  Ha ha ha ha ha.
